PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
This in-house recreational program is designed for boys and girls wanting to continue their development as a returning player or discover the game of soccer for the first time.  Players practice 2x/week and have games on Friday nights - games are 8v8.  Teams are coached by a volunteer parent with supplemental coaching from BCF staff clinicians.

The primary focus continues to be on individual ball skills and having FUN!  Passing and basic team concepts are also introduced.

SPRING 2012 SEASON DATES:
First Practice: week of Feb. 27
First Game: Mar. 9
Spring Break - no games Mar. 30
Last Game: May 18
Boulder Cup: May 19

TEAMS:
Preferred roster size:  11-12 players
Teams are formed based on school and/or geographic location.  There are not tryouts and BCF discourages "recruiting" and formation of all-star teams.  Teams are no longer coed - they are gender specific.

Teams may be formed by a parent volunteer coach by gathering a group of school or neighborhood kids.  The coach should submit an anticipated team roster to BCF and players should request that coach when they go through the online registration process (in the "Special Request" field).

Players may also register as individuals or may request to play with a friend (also in the "Special Request" field).  BCF will do its best to honor special requests.  Individual registrants will b eplaced on a team according to school and/or geographic location.

COACHES:
Teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches with supplemental training by BCF staff clinicians.  Many teams already have a parent coach in place.  However, in some cases, a team will be formed with multiple individual registratns who have a school and/or geographic location in common.  In these cases, BCF will notify all the families on that team and will request a parent to step forward a sa volunteer coach.  Soccer experience is preferred, but not a must.  Many of our volunteer coaches are just high-energy people who are good with kids - and their teams do great!  BCF provides coaching support to volunteer coaches through coaching clinics and phone/email consultation.

BCF takes responsibility for training teams 1x/week - volunteer coaches may, but are not required to, attend this practice.  Volunteer coaches are requested to attend and run the second practice with the assistance of their assigned BCF staff clinician.  BCF provides all lesson plans and field equipment.  Volunteer coaches are responsible for managing all games.

If you are interested in coaching, please contact Beth Widmann and/or click on the "volunteer as coach" option when registering your child.  We’d love to have you join the team!

PRACTICES:
U9-U10 teams practice 2x/week at East Boulder Recreational Center (EBRC).  Practices are held in an "academy" style setting with, for example, all U9 boys teams practicing at the same time/location.  BCF provides daily lesson plans, so all teams are learning the same skills/concepts throughout the season.  A BCF staff clinician is assigned to each team for at least one practice per week.  Each team receives a "half" clinician for the second practice each week - i.e. one clinician assists two teams.

In some cases, our parent coaches have extensive soccer or coaching experience and may not need additional assistance from a BCF clinician.  BCF will evaluate the coaching ability of these individuals and will decide whether or not to assign a clinician.

Some coaches/teams may choose to practice 1x/week at an alternative time/location based on travel/schedule constraints of their team families.  BCF does not provide clicinians to offsite locations, but all coaches receive the daily lesson plans, regardless of where they choose to practice.
