Hall of Fame

The Boulder County Force Soccer Club is one of Colorado’s most respected and experienced youth soccer organizations. Founded through the merger of Boulder County’s oldest competitive soccer clubs, FC Boulder (1981) & Lobos Soccer Club (1979), there have been thousands of players, parents and hundreds of coaches and volunteers who have helped shape the club.

Since 2004, the BCF has inducted members into BCF Hall of Fame for their outstanding contributions to the organization as either a coach, player, parent, volunteer or staff. The Hall of Fame inductee is announced at the annual spring Awards Night.

BC FORCE HALL OF FAME:

2010 - Val Miller

Val Miller was actively involved with our organization during the late 90’s and early 2000s. Her daughters played for our teams and in those days our club was made of many volunteers. Val’s involvement with our club started with an innocent question: “Val do you have a little bit of time to volunteer with some projects”. Well, that little bit of time turned into a fundraising project, running our Indoor Tournament, organizing the practice and game fields, overseeing the AGM, a position on the Board, and finally overseeing the Board as its President. Val was a very hands-on President. She was in the office on a daily basis, getting updates and working on different projects. In those days our club was experiencing growth and was slowly transforming itself from a predominantly volunteer-run organization into a club with paid staff. The BC Force would like to recognize Val Miller for her time, efforts and dedication.

2009 - Barb and Gary Beals

Throughout the 90’s Barb and Gary Beals were synonymous with coaching Girls Soccer here in Boulder. They coached second level teams as well as our top teams. They coached players at the recreational level as well as players who went on to play at the collegiate level. They coached for us at the club level, as well as the high school level at Fairview High School. In short, wherever there was a need for a girls soccer coach, Barb and Gary Beals were available. And although they were outstanding coaches, as their teams consistently competed at the highest levels, it was their team building activities which set them apart from the rest. Midnight hikes, bowling parties, slumber parties and a slew of activities which their players will remember over any game they ever played. You might know Barb and Gary as the original owners of the Rocky Mountain Soccer store. And tonight you also know them as the latest members of the BC Force Hall of Fame.

2008 - Sandi Vannice

Sandi’s involvement with our organization began when her son Matt started playing in the late 80’s. As many of you parents know, it starts with an innocent phone call: "Can you help us out a bit, it won’t take much time...." And from there Sandi became an active board member and eventually Board President. Under Sandi’s leadership, the club blazed its own path as FC Boulder, experienced growth in the girls’ program and started its own U10 program.

2008 - Jay Southern

Jay has been involved with the club as a parent, volunteer, board member and coach. Jay’s biggest impact on the club has been in his role as coach. Jay is still our only coach to have won a State Championship, winning the 1990 state championship with his then Boys U12 Red team. Under Jay’s guidance, that team, one of the most successful teams in our history went on to reach the finals again as U16’s. From that terrific team, six players went on to play at the collegiate level.

2007 - Dwight Allmon

Dwight came into the club (FC Boulder) early on as a coach, then served on the board as coach commissioner and president. Coached younger ages as well as high school ages for FC Boulder and also coached at Boulder High School.

2007 - Doyle Johnson

Doyle coached soccer all his adult life starting out in California. When Doyle moved to Boulder he was instrumental in forming the competitive side of soccer within the Boulder Junior Soccer structure. Doyle coached several of our earlier boys’ teams, then was the first to coach girls’ teams within the club. He was one of the first coaches to take boys’ teams to play in out-of-state tournaments and he took a team to play in Mexico City.

2006 - David Norcoss

David was the driving force behind the development of the Pleasant View Soccer complex, one of the premier soccer sites in the nation.

2005 - Stan Jozwiak

Stan has been involved with soccer in Boulder for over 25 years now as a FC Boulder/ BC Force coach and as head coach of Fairview High school. Stan was involved with FC Boulder from the beginning as the club coach and member of the board.

2004 - Alex Herzog

Alex started FC Boulder in the late 70’s. Alex has been involved with youth soccer in Boulder as a coach and board member for over 25 years.

BC FORCE PLAYERS HALL OF FAME

2010 - Patrick Huffer

Patrick was about 8 when he started playing in our U10 program. Right from the start we could tell that he was a special player. And as soon as he was eligible to play competitively, we moved him up in the older age groups.

Patrick had great vision. He was very competitive, fast, aggressive and had an uncanny ability to take over a game. Anytime his team needed a big play, Patrick had the ability to step up and deliver. However, what makes Patrick so special is not his great ability to play the game. What made Patrick so special was his fierce loyalty to his teammates, his coaches and this organization.

Patrick could’ve played for any of the big clubs in the state. In my opinion, he was the best player in his age group in the state. And the bigger clubs were definitely interested in Patrick. Patrick never wavered and during his U18 year, his team won the Elite division. The top division in the state.

During that spring, we played Rush Nike in a tournament. Rush Nike had several Division I type players, and during that game, the Head Coach for UConn was scouting the Rush players. UConn had won the national championship the year before and the coach was there recruiting some of the Rush players.

The game was close, it was back and forth with Rush winning 3-2 on a last minute goal. However, Patrick had scored 2 goals and was the best player on the field. After the game, the UConn coach came to me and said: “Who’s the blond kid, and has he signed anywhere yet?”

When I told him that Patrick had already committed to Williams, the look on his face was telling.

Patrick played four years at Williams. Williams is a perennial top 10 Division III program. During his four years there they reached the NCAA Division III quarter finals all four years. Patrick was the team’s leading scorer his junior and senior years. He was named to the All-American team his senior year, and he was named the NCAA Scholar Athlete of the Year. The highest award in college athletics.

I spoke with Patrick a couple of weeks ago and told him that he would be inducted into the BC Force Hall of Fame. I was joking with him telling him that he shuld be playing professionally somewhere but that he was too intelligent to waste his time on something like that. Patrick is currently at the University of Vermont and has two years left in med school. Patrick is on to bigger and better things in his life.

Before we hung up, Patrick asked me to thank his coaches. He said: “tell my coaches how important a role they played in my life.”  And that my friends is Patrick Huffer. Patrick could not be here tonight, but Patrick’s dad, Bill Huffer is here to receive Patrick’s award.

 2009 - Petra Kowalski

Petra started with FC Boulder as a field player on the Girls U11 Red team. She then played both goalkeeper and field player on the second team for three years before moving back to the Red team as a full-time goalkeeper. Petra attended Boulder High, was the starting varsity keeper for her sophomore, junior and senior years. She was Rookie of the Year, Team Captain and helped Boulder High to their first playoff birth. After high school, Petra was a four-year starter for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps colleges in California where she was Rookie of the Year, All-Conference, Regional Academic All-American and led her team to their first playoff birth. During her senior year, Petra officially began her coaching career as a JV High School coach in Pasadena, CA. After graduating with a degree in Government, Petra traveled to Iceland to play soccer in Iceland’s First Division. Upon returning to the States, Petra rejoined Claremont as the assistant coach for one season before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. There Petra began playing as a goalkeeper for the San Francisco Nighthawks of the Women’s Premier Soccer League, working in marketing and operations for the Stanford men’s and women’s soccer programs, and coaching her second JV soccer program at a local high school. Within 6 months, Petra became the head coach of the Nighthawks. In just two seasons as head coach, Petra turned the program around and led the team to the program’s first winning record and a third place finish in the Pacific-North Division. In the fall of 2007, Petra became the assistant women’s soccer coach at Division II Chico State in Chico, CA. In two years as the assistant, Petra recorded a record of 20-15-6 and a Conference Championship in 2007. At the end of this month, Petra will graduate from Chico State with a Master’s degree in Kinesiology.

2009 - Sebastien Colom

When I arrived in Boulder in ’89, Sebastien was a young talent roaming the local soccer fields. He started at Boulder High School for three years, leading the team in scoring all three years. He was an All-Centennial League and All-State selection. Sebastien led the Boulder High Pathers to the State Quarter Finals. After graduating from high school, Sebastien played four years at Division I University of Tulsa under Head Coach Randy waldrum. At Tulsa, Sebastien was selected to the All Missouri Valley Conference team (twice), was the MVC Player of the Week (twice), and still holds the MVC record for assists in one season (13). After graduating from Tulsa, Seb moved to South Korea to teach English. There he might his wife and they are currently living in Montpellier, France.

2008 - Jessie Burgener

Jessie is part of the Burgener clan which dominated Boulder soccer in the 80’s and 90’s. Jessie started playing for us at a very young age and throughout her career with us she always played up on older teams. Her teams always played at the highest levels and competed very well at the State Cup. Jessie was a unique athlete, something you do not see much anymore in this age of specialization. Jessie was a four-year, three-sport letter winner at Fairview High School in softball, basketball and soccer. Jessie could’ve played collegiately in any of these sports, however, she chose to play soccer for CU. Jessie was the first BC Force player to play at Colorado under then head coach Austin Daniels.

2008 - Phillip Koshi

I’ve watched Phillip develop from a talented, yet temperamental youngster into a mature individual playing for the Colorado Rapids U23’s. As a young player, besides being a pretty good soccer player, Phillip was also involved with gymnastics. The combination of these two sports gave Phillip a unique skill. He had the most dangerous flip-throw I’ve ever seen. At every level he played, it was cause for great excitement and goals. Phillip played collegiately at Division III powerhouse St Lawrence in New York, where he was an NCAA All-American. After completing his collegiate career, Phillip played several summers for the Colorado Rapids U23’s. Professionally, Phillip played with the Cincinnati Kings (USL) and was called up to the Colorado Rapids.

2007 - Melissa Richards

Melissa epitomizes the pioneering competitive girls player within our club. She played on a U-19 team from age 15 through 19, at a time when our girls teams were partially thrown together because we lacked the numbers on the girls side. She did not miss a single practice, game or tournament. By far one of the greatest girls talents the club has ever had. She was the most valuable player on every eam she played on, including her varsity soccer teams at Boulder High. Melissa worked her way through college. Went to CU before it had a women’s varsity program. Served on and off as an assistant coach for some of the club’s girls teams. Finished pre-med in 3 1/2 years, went on to graduate in the top 10% at the CU law school.

2007 - Andy Scaer

Andy was a talented youth player for FC Boulder and Boulder High school. He went on to have a terrific career at Division III Drew University. After graduating from college, Andy returned to Boulder and coached one of FC Boulder’s most successful boys teams from which many of the players went on to play at the collegiate level.

2006 - Jenny Dickinson

Jenny inspired the formation of competitive girls soccer in Boulder (’85). She was the first girl from Boulder to excel at the State ODP level. Jenny played Division I at Cal-Berkeley.

2006 - Brad Walsh

Brad went on to captain the ’88 NCAA Division I Champions San Diego State.
