Founded by BCF staff coach, Jeff Frykholm, the ¡Golazo! Project is a collaboration between the Boulder County Force and several local agencies including Boulder Valley School District, The University of Colorado, the Family Resource Schools Program, and the Boulder Enhanced Supervision Team of Boulder County.

Building on the great affinity that many Latino/Latina children in Boulder County have for soccer, the ¡Golazo! Project seeks to guide area 4th and 5th grade students through the often challenging transition from elementary to middle school.  Teams of children from schools that serve diverse populations in Boulder County meet with BCF and ¡Golazo! staff members after school three times each week.  One day is devoted to an academic enrichment experience in which  students engage in unique learning opportunities in the fields of mathematics and science.  A second day is spent on the soccer field in high level training sessions with BCF staff coaches including BCF Director of Coaching Advance Teams, Milo Woodson.  On Friday evenings, the teams compete in matches sponsored by the BCF Developmental Academy.  BCF Director of Developmental & Recreational, David Napior has worked closely with the program to assure their participation in the BCF friday night matches. In addition to these elements of the program, ¡Golazo! players also engage in a service learning project in their local communities – be it cleaning up a neighborhood park, helping elderly members of their communities with various tasks, or helping to improve their school facilities. 

The ¡Golazo! Project is grateful for the generous support of the Boulder County Force Soccer Club.  In addition to providing openings for teams in the Developmental Academy schedule, BCF has contributed scholarship assistance and training equipment to the program, staff coaching expertise, and great enthusiasm and leadership toward the goal of making the program a success.  Through the ¡Golazo! Project, BCF has been instrumental in helping all of Boulder County’s children develop passion not only for the game of soccer, but also for academic excellence, and for the opportunity to live healthy and fulfilling lives.

The teachers are seeing a big change in attitude.  Their ESL teacher came to talk to me about it.
